Ahh...A Soothing Moment For A Fabulous Woman...



Don't mess with me today. And if you're a man...don't force me to use my big brown eyes on ya. I'mruthless and I'll have you eating out of my hands in a New York minute.

We had a Super moon this weekend. Missed it. Maybe it's a good thing because this audacity of narcissism that I'm feeling at the moment would have been tripled if I witnessed something greater than myself.

Oh, don't hate...Haters. Dysfunction is the name of your favorite candy bar and you drink Haterade--straight, with no chaser.

You can't stand the thought that there are actually people who wake up in the morning and just feel fabulous. So fabulous that every time the sun shines on them; it's like a competition to see who can shine the brightest.

Light gives us energy. I'm a human equivalent of an energy drink.

It's true...people look at me and just feel better. I'm good for the environment.

This is revolutionary affirmation. It's out-of-sight in its vision.

I have no shame in broadcasting my inner most thoughts: thoughts so bodacious in their candor; one is forced to expose themselves by default.

Release the fear. Tell the world how fabulous you are...don't be bashful.

I am you. Just feel my greatness...and transfer it around you.

You Better Be On Time!



One of the greatest pet peeves that I have are people who are never on time.

This morning, I pushed back an appointment just so the maintenance crew could come and check my air conditioning unit and also a leaky faucet in the bathroom.  The initial call went through on April 22, 2012.  They were supposed to be at my apartment by 8:00 am.   Earlier attempts were made during the times I was at work; after still not having this matter resolved by April 27, 2012, I was told that management didn't have a copy of my apartment key so they couldn't get in to complete the work order.  OK...I volunteered to wait for them on my day off--agreeing to the time mentioned.  They didn't show.  I called the office and spoke with a gentleman who told me that they were doing their paperwork--I immediately told them someone was supposed to be at my apartment by 8:00 a.m.  "We're still doing our paperwork, ma'am."  I was told.  It's after 8:00 a.m. I exclaimed and I have to leave for an appointment by 9:30 a.m.  "Someone should be there before 8:30 a.m. ma'am."  I became irritated and told the gentleman that I expect people to be on time and I don't want anyone holding me up.  I then hung up.  No one showed--again.  I feel that it was a deliberate, and might I add: a childish response to my scolding of the impropriety of lateness that provoked this response.  Well, every choice has consequences; and I most definitely was not going to allow this matter to go uncountered.

At this point, I was fuming and I decided to call the Realty company which is the owner of my complex and make a complaint.  I was left with no choice.  I also left a message for the complex property manager reporting the incident.

What this boils down to is the attitude that you see in society in general today.  People do not feel accountable for their actions.

It is absolutely disrespectful to keep anyone waiting, especially when an appointment time was given.  When someone tells me they will be at my apartment at 8:00--I expect them to be there at 8:00!  Anyone that does not value other people's time--DO NOT RESPECT YOU.  And I will not tolerate that.

The issues that I needed resolved in my apartment are a simple fix.  Very simple and should have been taken care of by now, but apparently; someone in the maintenance department of my apartment complex must feel that tenant concerns are not their personal nor professional priority, and are treated as such.

I'm no one to mess with.  And as we have seen in the news lately; sooner or later, you're going to mess with the wrong person and have a simple situation turn into a matter of deeper scrutiny.

This is going to get resolved and I'm not going to settle for nothing less than complete satisfaction.

As for the maintenance guy who didn't show up at my apartment; he better hope he still has a job--especially in this economy.  His lack of judgment is going to cost him more than he could have anticipated.  All he had to do was show up.

I Will Not Make Whites Feel Good About Themselves...



Somewhere between the lines of political correctness and reality; there appears to be somewhat and arrogant attitude and presumption that prevails amongst some whites, that Black people have to be nice to them because the Civil Rights Act, after all, couldn't have passed if many whites in this country hadn't supported the cause.  This alone should somehow give them a pass when racial issues come up.

Really?

How many of them died for the cause?  Yes, some got hurt, but the it was Blacks who had to dodge bullets, dogs and water hoses.   Many went to jail.  Some had their homes set on fire or bombed.

What I'm getting at is that White people are not owed any type of gratitude because of their involvement in the movement.  Quite the contrary. 

Black people have been conditioned to be passive and obsequious whenever whites show any interest in our causes.  We are not to make any statements that remind whites of the 450 years of terror our ancestors endured nor are we to become belligerent, hostile or caustic in our speech or manner.  Hmmm...that sounds like; even to liberal whites; Black folks are still to act docile, respectful and humble in the presence of whites, albeit that deep down; most Black folks would love to beat the sh*t out of most whites on any given day.  They are not accustomed to hearing the truth spoken about them unapologetically.  White liberals are the worst.

I've been doing a lot of thinking since the Trayvon Martin murder case and protests that are going on.

The Black voices that rose up to speak out against this tragedy are really folks who are just FED UP.  They were fed up with the hypcrisy of White America. 

White folks love to insinuate how much race issues have subsided, yet in the span of 8 months, there are pending cases that involve race.  All the victims were Black and the assailants were white.

Who's zooming who?

Let me just be even more blunt: White folks have not, cannot and seemingly will not face up to this very truth: They are innately evil and as Malcolm X said in the sixties; many of them are depraved.  It's just not in their nature to act civilly toward people of color. 

When the Civil Rights Act was passed; yes, it struck down institutionalized racism; but racism of the heart and mind are passed on...and keep on ticking like a Timex.

I've never been that naive in my life to believe that singing a few unity songs was going to change white people.

Black people need to understand, here and now, that those who are Caucasian; have a unique history in this world. What does their history show? It shows a people obsessed with money, dominance (only the strong survive), power, greed, war, and the use of fear and misinformation as tools to control what they conquer. This is absolutely the truth.

And it's just a matter of intelligence for those Blacks, like myself; to come to the conclusion, based on current history of my generation, regarding Caucasians, that these people are pathological in their behavior, and it's is just pure lunacy to expect them to act with spiritual, moral and brotherly love toward other races of people.

It's just not in them.

Simply put: I don't trust them...and that's just how I see it.

Are Black People Now Convinced That White Folks Are Truly Racist?



A young white Mississippi man, Deryl Dedmon was sentenced to life in prison for the hate crime murder of James Craig Anderson last June. The judge in the case said it was inexcusable.

It's just been a few weeks since the Trayvon Martin case hit the media, now we're dealing with 5 killings of African Americans by a crazed white killer in Oklahoma.  http://wtvr.com/2012/04/09/will-tulsa-shootings-be-considered-a-hate-crime/

I just have one question today: Are Black People convinced that white folks really are racists and hate Black people?

Did this really have to happen to wake us up?

Obama's election brought out some of that old hate, but now there are white folks who seem to want to bring back the days of Jim Crow where it was open season on the killing and beating of Black people.

I've never been naive enough to believe that the Civil Rights movement changed anything in white folks. Laws were passed but people's hearts and minds are a matter all together.

And as an addendum, consider the recent killings by white gunmen on school campuses, office buildings et al.

What I have concluded is that there truly is a spiritual deficit in white folks. They are natural born psychopaths--not caring how their actions impact others.

They can't handle it. Then they nut up.

Should Black people consider buying more guns as a necessary means of protection?

We need to look this elephant in the room in the eyes and call it out for what it is.

I'm getting registered for a gun license.

You should think about it too.

Guilty For Walking Black!



Well...It happened again.

On February 26, 2012 in Sanford, Florida, while coming home from the store with a bag of Skittles, 15 year old Trayvon Martin was followed, confronted and shot to death by Neighborhood Watch captain, George Zimmerman.  Apparently Zimmerman told police that he felt threatened and that's why he shot Trayvon.   Trayvon was unarmed.  Zimmerman was not charged.  Story link: http://www.tampabay.com/blogs/media/content/national-news-media-attention-trayvon-martin-death-explodes-feds-investigate

From the moment the story hit national headlines, something just felt suspicious. 

Now, the entire country is demanding that the Justice Department act.  As of March 20, 2012, the Justice Department has agreed to review this case.

What I want to focus on here is that this is not the first time something like this has happened, but what struck a chord with so many people is that this young man was simply just walking down the street and was profiled by someone who obviously had bias against young Black males.

It has been reported that Zimmerman had called 911 at least 50 times within a one year period and every single time he called it was to report activity he felt was suspicious of young Black males.

How many times have we heard this type of story? 

In February of 1999, Guinean immigrant Amadou Diallo was shot by a New York City plain clothed officer.  He was unarmed and shot over 41 times.  Then there was Sean Bell who was shot to death in November of 2006, again by a New York City police.  Over 50 bullets were fired.   He was to be married later that day.  In both cases, both men were "suspected of having guns." 

Many people have asked the question: Why is it a crime for a Black man to walk down the street?   No matter where they go, they are a suspect.  How long is the Black community supposed to put up with this? 

Had Trayvon been white, he never would have been followed. 

It's been reported that young Black males are most likely the victims of police brutality and society bias. 

As a Black woman; I feel ever so protective.  I see what is happening and I can't pretend that I don't understand what this is about: RACISM.  Yes!  Plain and simple.

I can only pray that justice will be served in Trayvon's case.  Who knows who he could have grown up to be. 


Black men have a right to be treated with dignity and respect and as a community; the Black community must begin to protect our valuable sons and fathers.

I pray that Zimmerman will be put in prison and then...he can then tell the Black inmates why he felt the need to shoot an unarmed Black teenage kid.  I'm sure their response will most definitely be enlightening for him.

The Audacity of White Privilege!



On Saturday, March 10, 2012.  I sat in my company break room...just chilling out.  I wasn't really hungry.  I had been sick for the past week, so I just settled for a cheap frozen meal and watched CNN news.  About 10 minutes after sitting down to eat; a coworker (who shall remain nameless) came into the break room.  She's a young white girl (trailer trash) who is living with a Black guy and has 2 children with him.  Another young coworker; a young college student who happens to be Black, began a conversation with the white girl.  Somewhere during my attention to the news; my focus was averted by  the white girl when she made a comment to the Black girl, as she stepped out to go to get her lunch:  the white girl, for some unknown reason, chose to reveal to the young Black girl,  that one of her babies didn't like dark-skinned Black people.  The Black girl was dark-skinned as well.  I just glared at her.  She went on...and on...about how if her baby saw a dark-skinned Black person, he would cry and scream. OMG!  Was this really happening?  This was an encounter indeed.  There were 5 Black people in this section of the company break room.  3 Black males and I, and the other young Black woman.

First of all, as I stared at this girl; I had to really take a 60 second break and check myself before I jumped up and slapped the hell out of her.  When I composed myself internally, it was at this time that I confronted her.  I demanded to know what in the hell gave her the audacity to make such a statement--with such impunity, in a room filled with Black people?  I then told her that her comments were out of line.  The racial issues in America right now as well as in the past should have served as a meter stick as what to say and not to say to people, particularly if one was not educated about such perimeters.  She tried to defend herself--of course.  Her attempts at trying to justify what she said were absolutely comical--but no one was laughing.  During the course of this exchange, she had the nerve to say that "all of her friends are Black" and that her baby would not have a problem with me (I'm not dark-skinned).  Oh, how magnanimous of you to say this to me.  Sort of like putting more sh*t on top of bullsh*t, ya think? 

What struck me the most was the ignorance in this young woman.  She really didn't get it. 

This would have been very hurtful even if a Black person had said this, but the fact that it was coming out of the mouth of a white chick was absolutely incendiary.  She had no fear of any kind in making the statement, which led me to conclude that she most definitely felt as though she would not be challenged.

This is one of the reasons why many African Americans detest white women and interracial unions in general.  What are these women passing on to their offspring?  To have a child that harbors such a bias can only be attributed to certain behaviors, cultural cues and bigotry being perceived by one or both parents.

During slavery, skin color was used as a Divide and Conquer strategy as a way to keep the slaves separated, as not to become a threat to their white slave masters.  This is a fact of history.

What really galled me the most is that not one of the Blacks in that break room spoke up--even though this white girl was disrespecting not only Black people; she had no sense of shame in what she said and thought nothing of their feelings. 

Yes, you can still be in an interracial relationship and still be a racist.

I'm living in Georgia.  And I can say that one of the things that I despise about this place is how Black people, still, in 2012, are so afraid of white folks, to the degree, that they would sit in silence as some ignorant piece of white trash basically dumps crap on them.  It's one of the reasons whites in the south think they can say anything they want to or about Black people and not fear retribution.  The sad reality here is that Black people who allow this still must harbor deep intrinsic feelings of inferiority and have low self-worth.

I was raised in Chicago, IL.  I have respect for myself, and no one.  And I do mean NO ONE is going to make racist or ignorant statement as this woman did and walk away.  No way!  It is my responsibility as well as other Black people to check racism when it is being demonstrated either directly or indirectly.

Honestly, I could have gotten this woman terminated, but you know what; I really don't want to do that.  The greatest punishment she can receive is to have to look me in the face every single day...knowing that she's been exposed.

The journey of this book began officially in May of 2003; with several pit stops along the way.

During that year, I had been laid off from a major insurance company and really was ambivalent about getting back in the workforce.  Yeah, I got my resume out immediately and went to several outsourcing events.

In light of the current economic situation in this country; it was not easy in 2003 to land a job right away, so I decided to study Real Estate as a counter. 

A Journey Into The Mind of a Black Woman was the title I chose...with the subtitle: In Search of Black Men Who Live With Purpose.  Why the title?  Well...for many years, I had observed the negative behaviorial tendendicies of young Black men and as a Black woman; I wondered if they were conscious of what they were doing to themselves, their community and to the women that loved them?

Years earlier, the genesis of the book began on Blackvoices in discussions that I created.  From those discussions, I was able to witness the pathology behind the mindsets of many Black males and Black women.  Those conversations, debates and exchanges motivated me to use positive discourse as a measure to get deeper as to the causes of the breakdowns in communication that seems to exist between Black men and women today.  Many of the participants would often motivate me to write a book.  I made a mental note of it, not knowing that circumstances would present themselves in the future that would prompt me to do just that.

When I got laid off...literally, a little voice inside of me said...write the book.  I knew it was time.

On December 30, 2011; that book was released to the world.

This is not a book by yet another angry Black woman...This book is for Black men who are motivated by Power and want to EMPOWER!  I wrote it after many years of observation with the motivation of saving lives. Everyone wants to know what Black women are thinking. Well, I decided to tell them. It's raw, uncut and unapologetic. NO! It's not the rant of an angry Black woman, but one who has made intelligent analysis of why so many Black males in America seem to be lost. It's a wake-up call. And it's my prayer that I can get through to them.
